September - hightime to learn Russian!

09/27 2010

09/27 2010

Three students from Estonia continue studying at our Russian Language School. They have chosen Russian Semester Course (3 months), so they have more than two months ahead in Petrozavodsk! Chiara will also stay here one more month. We hope she will enjoy volunteering with children!

This week we are planning to visit Dolls’ Museum. There our students can see the dolls (mainly characters of folk tales and Karelian folklore), take pictures of them or buy a doll as a keepsake.

Also we would like to offer them to watch a Russian movie. We have not decided yet what film to choose, so it will be a little surprise :)

Besides, now we are preparing to meet our new guests! Two students from Austria and Italy will come to Ptz next Monday and become a students of “Enjoy Russian” Language School.

09/24 2010

The last week of the Russian language course is coming to an end. This week our students had a lot of free time. On Monday the boys and the girls went to the cinema, they watched a romantic comedy; we hope they enjoyed the film.

After that, our students went to see off Patrick, Helena, Elena and our volunteer Anko at the railway station, as we already have said they were planning to visit S. Petersburg, spend there a week and them come back home.

On Tuesday the group had an excursion to the museum of Fine Arts. Our foreign guests liked the excursion very much, because they have had a very good guide, who has spoken clear Russian, and they have understood everything.

Besides this, the boys and the girls went to the forest this week to gather mushrooms! Many Russian people do it in the autumn, so our students decided to use this chance as well :) They liked the process so much :) They were walking around the woods, enjoying the “golden” autumn and breathing the fresh air…

Today is the last day of learning Russian for Andries, Ingrid, and Chiara. Ingrid and Andries will leave Ptz this weekend. Chiara will do the next part of our program “Russian & Volunteering”, she will work with children as a volunteer.

Instead of our traditional Evaluating seminar this time we decided to go to a café where we will spend some time together summing up the results of the Russian course and awarding the certificates of “Enjoy Russian” our brilliant students!

09/20 2010

Karelian autumn is going on as well as our language courses, and the students have a big progress in learning Russian!

Moreover they have actively taken part in the Project “Mix of Cultures”, which finished on Friday. After such a busy week it is necessary to have a good rest :) On weekend our foreign guests spent time with their host families and went bowling together where they played a bit and had fun.

This week is expected to be quieter than previous one. Today the boys and the girls will go to the cinema to watch the film in Russian. No doubt it will be a very good practice for them :) Tomorrow the group will go to the Museum of Fine Arts. Its collection is numbering about 12 thousand of exhibits, well-known not only in Russia, but also abroad. We hope they will enjoy the excursion. Besides, the Trip to the Sholtozero Countryside is planned on Wednesday. The students will have a chance to visit the Veps Ethnographic Museum, after that they will drink tea from the real samovar with the traditional Karelian pies kalitki. On Thursday our foreign guests will have a farewell meeting at a cafe as it is the last week of the course for some of them. Ingrid and Andries will leave us. As soon as Chiara is taking part in the program “Russian & Volunteering” she will spend in Petrozavodsk one more month.  On Friday the students will have Evaluation seminar, where they will be awarded certificates of “Enjoy Russian” language school.

Yeah…we have had a really great week full of different interesting events! Today there will be the closing of  our international project “Mix of Cultures 2010.” Let’s tell gently about this week's events. As you know on Monday we had a Day of National Games. Our creative foreign guests showed to the citizens of Petrozavodsk the national games of their native countries. That was very funny and lot of people took part in it.

On Tuesday and Wednesday were Days of Countries: both our students and foreign vols presented their native lands. The students from “Enjoy Russian” told us lots of interesting facts about Belgium, Estonia, Italy, Austria, Portugal, and Germany. We danced together their traditional dances and sang songs. Moreover, they have taught us some useful phrases in their native language, so we won’t have difficulties traveling around wonderful places :)

One more event had continued out international project – Cooking Show. The first part was on Wednesday, and the second part was on Thursday. The foreign vols showed the visitors of the nightclub “Territoria” how to prepare their traditional dishes.

The results of the “Photo-quest” competition were summed up at the same place. Unfortunately our students haven't won :( The team “Red Keds” of the foreign and Russian volunteers are the winners, congratulations! But a victory is not the main thing, the main thing is participation :)

Yesterday our Portugal student Ivo left Petrozavodsk and our Russian school. He had an intensive language course at the beginner level. We hope that he will get home without any problems :)

In other news our students will go bowling today. We wish them to enjoy themselves!

09/13 2010

A new week of active studying at the “Enjoy Russian” has begun, but at first we should sum up the previous one.

Last Friday our students took part at “Photo-quest”. It is one of the events within the framework of our international project “Mix of Cultures 2010”. Our foreign guests had a great chance to show their creativity, and to explore new places of our beautiful and hospitable city. Who is the winner...? The intrigue still remains:) It will be known only on Thursday! Now we can show you some of the photos of our participants!

At the weekend the group went to the Cultural Capital of Russia - St. Petersburg. They enjoyed this 2-day trip very much. The students were amazed with the beautiful architecture of the North Capital while boat excursion around SPb.

Our guests visited many wonderful places, such as Peterhof (the Low park, fountains, and the Grand palace), and well-known Hermitage: its collection includes more than three million works of art and artifacts of the world culture!

Let’s pass to the plans for this week. Our project “Mix of Cultures 2010” is going on. Today is the Day of National Games, so the foreign volunteers will present their traditional games. Our students will also participate in this funny event :) Lots of active games are expected, so nobody is going to freeze :)

Days of Countries will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. What does it mean? Our foreign students and volunteers will present Belgium, Estonia, Germany, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Poland, the USA, and the Netherlands: cultures, languages, national song and dances etc.

Moreover, on Wednesday and on Thursday there will be the last event of the project – Cooking Show! Our friendly foreign vols will cook some of their national dishes in one of the Ptz' night clubs. Everybody who wants will have an opportunity not only to taste these dishes but also to learn to cook them.
In Friday’s news we’ll tell you more details about theses amazing events!

09/10 2010

Recent week was full of events! Our annual international project “Mix of Cultures 2010" started on Wednesday.

The festive procession (The "Caravan of Cultures") along Lenin avenue has opened the project with great success.

During this procession our students, our foreign and Russian volunteers represented their native countries: sang songs, and danced traditional dances.

What is more to say -  the foreign vols had prepared the State Flags of their countries, so they could surprised the citizens of Ptz with colourful caravane:) People in the street turned to them with a smile on their faces and watched their performance with great interest :)

Yesterday we had very “tasty” event – National Food Party. Thanks to the good weather it was carried out like a picnic in one of the parks of our friendly city.

Both our foreign students and foreign vols took part on this party. Traditionally, our guests have prepared very tasty dishes and then presented them at the intercultural party. Each dish was decorated with the national flag of the country of their origin.

Today we will have another interesting event within the framework of the project: Photo–quest, everyone who wants can participate. The boys and the girls will receive an interesting task with the ciphered places of Petrozavodsk, were they should take photos.

On Monday we will show you the picks of the participants. Moreover, today some of the students were awarded the certificates of “Enjoy Russian”. Unfortunately, this is their last week in our Russian language school, and at the weekend they will leave us. The other students will go to St. Petersburg this weekend. Let’s wish them a good way, and we will keep you informed about the details of this trip in the next news’ issue.

09/06 2010

The second week of learning Russian starts today. On Saturday the boys and the girls visited KizhiIsland. They liked the amazing “Karelian Pearl” very much. It is one of the most favorite excursions for our students, and they enjoyed the beauty of the architectural ensemble a lot.

Besides, three students from Estonia came to us this weekend, and today they will have their first classes at the “Enjoy Russian” language school.

After lessons our new students with Russian vols will go sight-seeing around Petrozavodsk.

Tomorrow as scheduled all the students will watch a Russian (Soviet) movie “Ëþáîâü è ãîëóáè”. Today nine volunteers from Belgium, Germany, UK, Poland, the Netherlands, Latvia, and Czech Republic came to our “Center “Initiative” to participate in a great international project “Mix of cultures 2010”.

It is an annual event, which is arranged for all citizens of Petrozavodsk by our Organization. The project’s aims are to explore new cultures and make stronger international links.

Our students will actively take part in this project as well. The opening of “Mix of cultures” will be on Wednesday, and our foreign group will participate in the Parade (The "Caravan of Cultures") along Lenina avenue. On Friday within the framework of the project they will have photo-quest. Very interesting tasks are waiting for them!

09/03 2010

The first week our students’ studying is coming to an end. The boys and the girls are very enthusiastic at learning the Russian language and have participated in several activities.

On Tuesday our guests had a “Team-building”, during which they did played some games for improving communication in the group, making the staying in our school more enjoyable, helping participants to learn more about themselves and just getting know each other.

On Wednesday our foreign guests had the presentation about Karelia and Russia, so they could learn more about their place of studying and living. Moreover, the students from Belgium (as we have already mentioned we have five Belgian students this month) presented their native country as well.

In other news, yesterday the group went to the excursion to the Museum of Regional History. The students chose the Russian – speaking guide :) We are sure that it’s a very good practice!

Besides, one more student from Portugal has joined our friendly group this week and started to learn Russian individually. Unfortunately Friday is the last day of Valeria’s studying at “Enjoy Russian.” She had a very intensive individual Russian course, so she has made a great progress in Russian! We are very happy for her :)

September 3rd - the double-birthday at our School!!! Patrick from England is 23 and Ruben from Belgium celebrates his 19th birthday. The guys blew out the candles on the cake, and we wished them all the best :) It becomes a good tradition to celebrate birthdays in Petrozavodsk!

In the evening our students are going clubbing with the Russian volunteers. They will have a chance to have fun and celebrate guys’ birthdays. Tomorrow they will visit the beautiful Kizhi Island.

08/30 2010

Today we are glad to welcome a new group of students from Belgium, Austria, and Italy. In a week some more students from Estonia will join us. Moreover, we have five students from Belgium, so we are sure, these students will find much in common :) Some of our guests are going to take part in the 2 week Russian courses, others in the 4 week course. Chiara from Italy will stay with us for 2 months! She participates in the program “Russian & Volunteering”. In the morning our guests had the introductory seminar, where they got acquainted with each other, their teachers, and volunteers.

At the seminar the students made the apple-tree of expectations and wishes. Afterwards, the students had their first Russian classes.

Despite the fact that the most Russian volunteers will start a new academic year on the 1st of September (almost all of our volunteers are students), we hope they will actively participate in our cultural program (it is as usual full of interesting events). Today, for example, the boys and the girls from our new group and Russian vols will go sight-seeing around Petrozavodsk. Tomorrow they will have “Team-building” with the vols to become a friendly team. This week our guests will have many interesting options to spend free time, we will tell you more about it on Friday.
