08/29/09 On Friday and on Saturday we saw off the guys from the August group. That was very touching, because the volunteers of the Centre Initiative and the students of the Russian language school Enjoy Russian became real friends. We are looking forward to meeting the guys again and will miss them very much!
08/28/09 On Tuesday the Students of the Russian language school Enjoy Russian had a nice trip to the countryside Sholtozero. There the guys had an excursion around the village and an old Karelian wooden house. After the excursion the students were offered to have tea with traditional Karelian pies – kalitki, which are very tasty. We were lucky, because the weather was very nice for the end of summer in Karelia.

08/17/09 On Thursday the students of Russian language school Enjoy Russian with the volunteers of the Centre Initiative prepared the Food Party. We all cooked some traditional dishes and then presented them to each other.
The children from the Language Studio of the Centre Initiative also joined us later to get to know more about the cuisines of different countries and to tell the students more about some Russian traditional dishes.
Though the weather didn’t leave up to our expectations, we easily found the way how to raise our mood:) After trying all the tasty things, we played different active games, talked and laughed a lot, in other words had a wonderful time together.
On Friday some of the students of Russian language school Enjoy Russian went to visit Russian Northern Capital – St. Petersburg. Valya, the volunteer, helped the guys to find the way and to feel at home in the new city.
![]() They had a rich excursion program, which included visiting Petergof, walking around the city and a boat trip around the canals of this marvelous city.
![]() Everyone really liked the tour to St. Petersburg, but unfortunately we had to say “Good bye” to some of our students, because they were going home after 2 weeks of studying in Petrozavodsk. Hope, that they’ll come back soon to learn more Russian at Russian Language school Enjoy Russian:)
08/14/09 This week the students as usual have a lot to do and to visit. On Monday the guys continued getting acquainted with Russian culture. This time we watched Russian movie, which is called Íåâåðîÿòíûå ïðèêëþ÷åíèÿ èòàëüÿíöåâ â Ðîññèè (The incredible adventures of the Italians in Russia) by the famous Russian director Eldar Ryazanov. Though the guys didn’t catch all the small details, all in all the impression of the movie was very positive.
![]() On Tuesday we had the evening of presentations. The students of Russian language school Enjoy Russian presented their countries for the people from Petrozavodsk and for each other, of course. We were told a lot of interesting facts about France, Italy, Ireland, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Poland, Austria and the USA.

On Wednesday some of the students went rafting to face severe Karelian rivers, while the others went to spend time with the children from the Language Studio, where they baked pies. Both of the groups had a lot of fun.
![]() Though the weather was not very good, the guys at rafting tour didn’t fall in despair and enjoyed themselves. They had a tour along the Karelian river Shuya and then had a nice picnic at the bank of the river. And part of the group, who were with the children also had fun cooking and speaking Russian with the youngest representatives of our Centre.

At the weekend the students as usual had a rich outdoor program. First of all on Saturday they visited the local night club FM. There we danced, enjoyed Russian modern music and had a lot of fun: the guys met some more volunteers of the centre Initiative and just youth people from Petrozavodsk.
The next thing to do was to visit open-air museum Kizhi and on Sunday the students of Russian Language School Enjoy Russian went there to see that well-known place with their own eyes.
![]() Though the guys were a bit tired after yesterday’s visit of the night club :) everyone liked Kizhi Island very much and had a wonderful time there taking pictures, enjoying unforgettable nature and observing wooden churches and chapels. The weather was also wonderful and sunny all day long, so we didn’t have to worry about umbrellas :) Hope the summer won’t leave Karelia in the nearest future!
08/08/09 On Wednesday (08/07 2009) our adult group from Finland went to Kizhi Island within the bounds of the cultural exchange program at Russian language school Enjoy Russian.
Though the weather was not brilliant we had a great time at the Island. We had a nice guide Anastasiya, and the excursion was in Finnish language, so the members of the group felt really at home there and could easily understand everything concerning the history of the Kizhi Island.
After the excursion we had free time for walking around and buying souvenirs. I think everyone was impressed by the beauty of the architectural masterpieces of Karelian builders. ![]() 08/04/09
On Monday, the 3rd of August, a new group of foreign students came to our Russian Language school Enjoy Russian. All of the guys from Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, UK, Italy, Poland, etc. are very nice, friendly and easy-going. We found the common language without any problems and in the afternoon the students had their first Russian classes and got acquainted with their teachers. After the classes the volunteers organized the Welcome party, where we played fanny games and learned more about each other. Today the excursion around our small but beautiful city Petrozavodsk is organized by our local guide Ksusha ;)
