Last week a new student from Poland came to Petrozavodsk. His name is Lukasz. He speaks Russian very well, so he has taken first certificate level courses in our Russian Language School. His teacher Veronika is glad to help Lukasz to improve his Russian language. Also we got new volunteers to our team. That’s why we arranged a “Welcome” party on Thursday, 26. Our volunteers got to know each other better. We played different games and had a great time. The Spanish student Paula took part in those exciting activities too. In our opinion, the members of our team became closer friends! Now we are planning a new event – “Food Party” where all guests get opportunity to taste different dishes made according to recipes from all over the world.
03/06/2009 Last Wednesday, March, 4th , we had a wonderful party “The French Cocktail” dedicated to our student Herve who was going to leave Petrozavodsk that night. The theme of the evening was France. The guests were dressed in romantic style: berets, stylish dresses, elegant accessories. The French music played while photographs were shooting our beautiful guests. Our students Herve and Paula became teachers for a half an hour and taught the guests some words in their native languages.

It felt like a true French atmosphere had been created! Everybody liked the party very much!
This week Paula has left for Murmansk but she is coming back soon.
And more great news – we are waiting for a new student from Poland!

Last week the Russians celebrated Maslenitsa. This week is also called Butter Week or Pancake week. Maslenitsa is an old Russian folk holiday and a sun festival, celebrating the end of the winter. On Sunday one of our volunteers, Daniil, organized a great Maslenitsa holiday in his yard. Everybody was invited, and our foreign students, too.
![]() Our Spanish student, Paula, got opportunity to taste bliny (Russian pancakes), to drink hot Russian tea from samovar and to take part in different games. We had a lot of fun. According to the folk tradition, the mascot of the celebration, Lady Maslenitsa, the symbol of Winter, was burnt.
Now our students and volunteers are ready for new exciting Spring activities!
